The copper water bottles are handmade in India, which means that every bottle is unique and may differ somewhat from the picture. The bottles may also display impurities, as a result of the natural properties of copper. When using the bottle for the first time, we advise you to first rinse it a couple of times.
Copper drinking bottles (tamba) have been produced and used in India for over 200 years. According to the ancient Indian Ayurveda, drinking water from a copper bottle helps balance the three energies that circulate in the human body; they are called the Doshas (Vata- air element, Kapha- water element and Pitta- fire element). These bottles are only suitable for water, not for milk, citrus and sour liquids.
With time, copper will start to discolour due to oxidation. The material may also start to ‘stain’. These are natural properties of copper and have no negative effects on drinking from a copper bottle like this one. These changes will mainly appear on the inside of the bottle. The bottles are made of pure copper (99,6%). The outer layer has been lightly lacquered, and the cap contains a rubber band to avoid leaking (0,4%). The inside of the bottle consists of 100% copper. As a result of the natural properties of copper, the bottles may also display impurities. In case of discolouration, dark spots / smudges may appear on the inside of the bottle. Additionally, the surface may turn green(ish).
We believe in fair trade, and so does our copper processor. A fair price is paid for these products.
